HKUST Office of Knowledge Transfer

The university has developed a three-pronged approach, i.e. Education, Research (Basic and Applied) and Translational Activities (Knowledge Transfer (KT)/Societal Contributions), to integrate holistically our mission and priorities while promoting cross-disciplinary pursuits. The Office of Knowledge Transfer (OKT) was established in 2014 and comprises the Technology Transfer Center (TTC), the HKUST R and D Corporation Limited (RDC) and the Entrepreneurship Center (EC) together with two joint research institutes and one innovation center, namely HKUST-Bright Dream Robotics Joint Research Institute (HBJRI), HKUST-Kaisa Joint Research Institute (HKJRI), and HKUST Collaborative Innovation Center (HCIC).

OKT assists AVP‐KT on KT strategic planning, implementation of KT missions, governance of KT operations, and overseeing TTC, RDC(HK) and EC. It coordinates between Industry and HKUST’s Schools and IPO, Research Institutes and KT units, to nurture innovation and entrepreneurship in our spirit. It also optimizes translational research opportunities to propel Hong Kong and the region to innovate, with a focus on operating three Joint Research Units, namely HKUST‐Bright Dream Robotics Joint Research Institute (HBJRI), HKUST‐Kaisa Joint Research Institute (HKJRI), & HKUST Collaborative Innovation Center (HCIC), and manages interdisciplinary projects such as the Autonomous Vehicle (AV) trial and the Burger Robot Joint.

Strategic Objectives

A Powerhouse for Innovation and Entrepreneurship evidenced by the successes of our faculty, students, and alumni, knowledge transfer has always been a core part of HKUST’s mission since the very beginning. We are already recognized as an influential “KT” force, as shown by the endeavors of our faculty, students, and alumni, and will seek to actively extend our innovation and entrepreneurial culture to benefit society at large.
